The table of contents is divided into twenty chapters with corresponding sections for each chapter. I suppose the book can be read from front to back; however, I find it most helpful for quick reference needs. If you use Adobe's Creative Cloud, you have access to a variety of video tutorials. When I opt to view Adobe's tutorials, the book serves as a nice complement.
The color illustrations and tips are also helpful. Easy to read. Sample images would help. Not good. I have several years of experience with Adobe Illustrator, so the majority of the content wasn't super-beneficial to me.
A lot of the book is written within the framework of how you're using Adobe Illustrator within the workplace, so sections on preparing files talk about how you might want to format it in case you're handing it off to an animator, or a adobe illustrator cc for dummies free shop.

David Karlins is a very engaging instructor; I feel illustraor adds just enough light humor to keep it interesting but not get in the way of instructing. His instructions follow a very sensible order and I feel he leaves no detail out, he even covers more obscure tools like the grid tool, which by the way is a lot of fun. I took several years off from Graphic Design when I had kids and when I tried to get back into the game, the playing field had changed way more than I thought it had.
