On some machines inventor-view fails to install, that is, these entries are missing from the start menu:. I'd like to install just the missing Inventor View to the systems rather than uninstall everything and start over on the systems where Inventor view install failed. I have read elsewhere on these forums that Inventor View can be installed from the MSI but when I try directly from the msi it pops a dialog saying it needs to be run from Setup.
So I went to makie a suitable. Thanks for your insight. First thing is that you shouldn't have to uninstall everything. All you need to do is run the entirely deployment via sccm again and it should install the missing components without needing to uninstall anything.

Suffering from precedent anecdotal mis-information: "that's the way we've always done it.. I'm not sure I do not recall those steps, it was a few weeks back, expect I did since most times it installs without issue. So I'm not sure hwo to confirm.
Since creating the network deployment I have deployed Autodesk to around 75 computers of which about 7 did not get Inventor View installed first time around. I completely uninstalled and then re-installed and Inventor View then installed without issue.
On the current lab the tables were turned and inventor view failed the install on most computers, that is 25 of I have now updated the SCCM timeout to minutes so there may be some improvement.
I have yet to test that as such a test needs fresh installs and I don't currently have any to do, just fixes.
OTOH perhaps I didn't update the network install to include it and it, inventor view, is getting installed as prereq for something else as I don't see it in the PDSU I tried to have it installed before classes started for fall but Inventor View failed to install as described.
I was looking for a quick fix. I will try your approach and report back, however to be less intrusive I will need to redeploy in the wee hours tomorrow morning, so I won't report back here until tomorrow.
Ok, so the original deployment didn't include Inventor View. In that case, find the product design media and create a new deployment and only choose Inventor View. Then you should be able to push it out with SCCM as you would with the full deployment. If the original deployment did not have Inventor View how is it that it is being installed on most systems? So as far as I know I chose everything. There are a couple of sections in the PDSU OTOH this is your software so I don't know how that part is meant to work.
I've just followed the instructions in the URL above. The setup did what it did when I followed those for installing everything. I'll try over to morrow and make a new network image ansd see if it is any different or if I can even make an installer for Inventor view alone. At this point you will have a new shortcut within the deployment directory along with an ini file. Now, you should be able to push via SCCM. However that does not show in Programs and Featires as being installed and there is no folder for Inventor View in the start menu.
I have install logs but there is no log for inventor view but there is one for inventor if you'd like to see them. At this stage the anecdote about completely uninstall then re-install is giving the best results. With the full install most times Inventor view ends up in Programs and Features as an installed application. In this mode a folder "Autodesk Inventor View " is added to the start menu under the Autodesk folder with a link to Inventor View and a sub folder "Tools" which contains a link to Project Editor.
When Inventor is installed by itself it copies Inventor View to the bin folder and does not register the program in Programs and Features,. In summary this appears to be a bug in in the autodesk installer that it sometimes installs and registers Inventor View and creates fiolders and links to in one place and sometimes installs but does not register and does not create a start mnu folder but links in another place.
Please either forward this to your deleloper team or post a link to where I can file a bug. I would mark one of your answers as being the solution except that no one of them was, several were helpful though, so I will give you kudos for your efforts. However what is still odd is that Inventor View does not show in that tool. Thanks again. Message 7 of Ok, here's the solution Give this configuration a new name Message 8 of I've tried installing manually via the Inventor I have install logs but there is no log for inventor view but there is one for inventor if you'd like to see them [edit] I should also note that I ran the uninstaller on one of the 23 systems that Invenor view install failed and re-installed from scratch and then inventor view is there.
Message 9 of If the exe file is there. That would indicate that the install was successful. Just created a shortcut on the desktop to it and attempt to run it to see if it works. Message 10 of It turns out that the Autodesk installer is bit fickle has two ways of installing Inventor View.
